4th Annual Count Your Steps - 2021 Challenges

This year sees the charity celebrate 10 years of supporting islanders affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.

When we look back over the last 10 years since the charity was founded in 2011, we don’t believe anyone quite realised how much or how quickly the charity would grow. Sue May’s vision for the charity back in 2011 was that we would be a specifically dedicated support system for patients and their families who had been affected by a brain tumour. In her own words, she thought she would meet one or two people a month for a coffee and signpost them to other organisations. That vision changed quickly as our numbers have grown. The charity has supported over 200 patients in the last 10 years, not including their family, friends, or colleagues. Our day-to-day experiences with islanders diagnosed with a brain tumour continue to confirm that our services are just as vital today as they were 10 years ago.

Without the support of the many people who have fundraised for us over the last 10 years, we wouldn’t be able to ensure that anyone who has a level of need is well informed, supported, and able to make informed decisions.

This is the 4th Annual Count Your Steps challenge that JBTC has set up in Jersey. Our goal is to raise vital funds for the charity by encouraging you to get outdoors, take in some fresh air, and tot up some steps now that the weather is improving.

For our health, the guidelines are that we should all aim to walk 10,000 steps a day, but we ask that you do as many as you can.  The aim of our challenge is to try and walk around the world which is 24 million steps, if we go round more than once that would be amazing! We hope that we can motivate you to walk a total of 1,000,000 steps yourself by the end of this challenge, but we realise that not everyone has the time to do that so we have set up three challenges. Every single step taken helps and it does not matter how many steps you do, it is the taking part that is important.

These are our ticket options:-

1) Aim for 100, 000 steps in 10-days, starting from 23rd April 2021 and finishing on 2nd May 2021

2) Aim for 500,000 steps in 50-days, starting from 23rd April 2021 and finishing on 11th June 2021

3) Aim 1,000,000 steps in 100-days, starting from 23rd April 2021 and finishing on 31st July 2021

All tickets cost £20 plus Eventbrite fees and all funds raised will be used locally supporting JBTC clients.

If you sign up for the 10-day challenge but feel you'd like to carry on, just let us know and we will continue to record your steps. Likewise, if you sign up for the 100-day challenge but find it is too much, that's fine too. Also, if you don't want to do the steps, please join sign up anyway, as all donations are gratefully received.

If you are aiming to complete 10, 50, or 100 days please consider reaching out to your family and friends for sponsorships or set up a Just Giving Page for us. Please let us know if you need a JBTC sponsorship form.

How to keep track of your steps:

Please record your steps on your smartphone/watch every day and email us a screenshot of your steps weekly. If you do not have a way of recording your steps we know that 5 miles equals approximately 10,000 steps so take a stroll from Le Fregate to Bel Royal and back - which is roughly how far you need to walk each day.

We do ask that you please adhere to the Government guidelines on social distancing whilst you walk about the island.

We cannot thank you enough and appreciate you supporting JBTC during a global pandemic when fundraising is difficult Thank you for getting involved.
